Overview

Bruxelle by Night (B2N) was one of my first major entrepreneurial ventures—a project that taught me about startups, app development, and the realities of building a product from the ground up. As a Full-Stack Developer, I co-founded and built an application aimed at transforming the nightlife experience in Brussels, providing users with event listings, promotions, and exclusive discounts on drinks.

This project challenged me, excited me, and ultimately changed my perspective on product development and business strategy. I learned how building the app was just the beginning, and that maintaining, scaling, and responding to user feedback were equally critical aspects of success.

Key Responsibilities & Achievements

1. Full-Stack Development & Product Architecture

• Developed the B2N mobile app and web platform, handling everything from UI/UX design to backend architecture.
• Built the backend in PHP with a MySQL database, ensuring scalability for increasing users.
• Created a React Native-based mobile application, offering real-time event updates and venue promotions.

2. Collaboration & Business Development

• Worked with two co-founders from HUBrussel who focused on sales, marketing, and partnerships, while I handled the technical side.
• Integrated venue partnerships, allowing bars and clubs to promote exclusive deals through the app.
• Adapted the app based on user feedback, iterating features to improve usability and engagement.

3. The Challenge of Growth & My Regret in Leaving

• Initially, the excitement of building new features kept me motivated. However, as the project matured, I lost interest when things became repetitive.
• Debugging and fixing errors after every new feature release became frustrating, highlighting the need for automated testing—something I didn’t focus on at the time.
• When I returned to Norway, I decided to move on to new projects, while my co-founders continued.
• Looking back, I regret not staying longer, as I later realized the true value of consistency in long-term product success.

• Automated Testing Matters – If I had implemented unit and UI testing early, I could have prevented the frustration of constantly fixing bugs.
• Business & Tech Must Align – A great product is useless without strong business execution, and I saw firsthand how marketing and sales played a huge role in growth.
